THE PATENT DRAWING SYSTEM

One standardized system for patent drawings

Designed for non-drafters — productive in hours, not weeks. No drafting background required.

IP DaVinci Patent Drawing System™ gives attorneys, paralegals, and their clients a standardized way to create, revise, and review patent-ready drawings in Microsoft Visio — all in the same editable source file.
Built for patent teams and their clients — not professional drafters

💡 Browser-based cloud access is available for mixed-device teams (Mac, iPad, Linux, locked-down IT).

What Is the IP DaVinci System?

A complete Microsoft Visio-based patent drawing system: low-learning-curve training, Visio templates & stencils, optional cloud workspace, and studio support.

I built the IP DaVinci Patent Drawing System™ to give patent teams a standardized, low-learning-curve way to create, revise, and review patent-ready drawings in Microsoft Visio.

After 30+ years in the patent drawing ecosystem, I saw the same pattern across teams: attorneys, paralegals, and inventors aren’t trained in patent drawing workflows or tools. That leads to slow figure prep, revision delays, clarification cycles, redraws, and unnecessary vendor dependence.

IP DaVinci solves this at the system level by combining:

  • Role-based Training (so non-drafters become productive fast)
  • Toolkit Templates + Stencils (so standards are enforced and drawing work is faster)
  • DaVinci Cloud Workspace (Windows + Visio in the browser for Mac/locked-down IT)
  • Studio Services (outsourcing for complex, time-sensitive, or overflow work)

The result is faster figure turnaround, higher consistency, lower external drafting cost, and reclaimed internal hours — because each role can handle the part of figure work they should, while everyone collaborates in the same editable Visio source file instead of passing redlines and redoing drawings.

LEARNING

Training (Starter Package)

Structured, role-based training that teaches the essential Visio skills, patent drawing standards, and figure-specific drawing techniques needed to produce patent-ready drawings within a standardized system.

STANDARDS

Toolkit (Starter Package)

Visio templates and stencils that enforce patent-ready standards while accelerating figure creation and keeping drawings consistent and editable across matters.

SUPPORT

Maintenance & Support (Annual)

Optional annual plan that keeps the Toolkit current, provides drawing/system support, and includes Studio credits.

ACCESS

DaVinci Cloud Workspace (Optional)

Managed Windows + Visio in the browser when local installs aren’t practical (Mac, iPad, Linux, locked-down environments).

CAPACITY

Studio (Optional)

Expert drawings for complex or time-sensitive cases — fully compatible with the same system.

What teams achieve with one shared system

Consistency first. Speed follows.

Recovered Internal Hours

Reduce revision loops and coordination overhead that quietly consume attorney, paralegal, inventor, and researcher time.

  • Fewer clarification cycles
  • Less back-and-forth with vendors
  • More time on prosecution and invention work

Fewer Redraws

Figures evolve with claims instead of being recreated at each stage.

  • Cleaner first drafts
  • Less rework during prosecution
  • More predictable revision cycles

Faster Day-to-Day Production

Standardization removes repetitive setup work and decision fatigue.

  • Routine figures in minutes, not hours
  • Reusable layouts and symbols
  • Less reformatting across matters

Cross-Team Consistency

Everyone speaks the same visual language across engineering, legal, and outside support.

  • Invention disclosures → patent filings
  • Internal → external drafting
  • R&D teams → patent counsel

Future-Proof Deliverables

All work stays editable in Visio, making drawings a reusable asset.

  • No locked files
  • No redraw dependency
  • Long-term reuse across families

SYSTEM ADOPTION

The Default Adoption Path

Start with the system. Add support or services only when needed.

The IP DaVinci System Adoption Path:

  1. Start with the Starter Package, which includes Training and the Toolkit.
  2. Keep Maintenance & Support active annually to receive Toolkit updates, system support, and Studio credits.
  3. Add Cloud Workspace only when local installs aren’t practical (Mac, iPad, Linux, locked-down IT).
  4. Use Studio only when you want drawings done for you.

START Starter Package

Start with the Starter Package

Everything you need to adopt the system and produce patent drawings yourself.

  • Training to learn the workflow.
  • Toolkit with templates and stencils.
  • One-time purchase. You keep what you receive.
ONGOING Maintenance

Add Maintenance & Support

Optional annual plan for active production use.

  • Toolkit updates and refinements.
  • Drawing and system support.
  • Studio credits included.
OPTIONAL Cloud

Add Cloud Workspace when installs aren’t practical

Run Windows + Visio in the browser for mixed-device or locked-down environments.

  • Ideal for Mac, iPad, Linux, and restricted IT setups.
  • Keeps the same system and file compatibility.
OPTIONAL Done-for-you

Use Studio when you want drawings done for you

Delegate complex, high-volume, or time-sensitive work.

  • Uses the same system.
  • No redraw or compatibility issues.

Why this matters: You only pay for what you actually need. Own the system outright, keep it current when you’re actively using it, and delegate only when it makes sense.

Who This Is For

Different needs, same standardized workflow.

  • Standardize drawing production across staff.
  • Use Maintenance & Support for continuity.
  • Use Studio for overflow or complex matters.

Corporate IP & R&D

  • Enable engineers to create usable figures.
  • Maintain consistency across teams.
  • Keep drawings editable long-term.

Universities & Academic Programs

  • Teach practical patent drawing skills.
  • Use Training as curriculum support.
  • Cloud Workspace for mixed-device labs.

Individuals & Professionals

  • Adopt the system with discounted access.
  • Create routine drawings internally.
  • Delegate complex work only when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I actually own after purchasing?
You own the Training materials and the Toolkit files you receive with the Starter Package. Nothing is revoked if you choose not to continue with Maintenance & Support.
Is training access per person or shared?
Training access and Toolkit access are provided per seat, for the individual(s) covered by the Starter Package. Each person who needs access to the training or Toolkit files must have their own seat.
What does Maintenance & Support include?
Maintenance & Support includes Toolkit updates, drawing/system support, and Studio credits for limited expert assistance.
Do I need Maintenance & Support forever?
No. It is optional. Active users typically keep it enabled so the system stays current while they are producing drawings.
When should we use Cloud Workspace?
Use Cloud Workspace when local Windows/Visio installs aren’t practical — for Mac, iPad, Linux, or locked-down IT environments — while keeping the same system and file compatibility.
When should we use Studio?
Use Studio when you want drawings done for you — for overflow, complexity, or time-sensitive work.
