WHAT SETS STIPPLING DRAWINGS APART

Accurate surface-shading technology2020-02-24T21:07:00+00:00

A significant challenge faced by patent illustrators is properly applying shading to achieve a 3D sense in a drawing, given that a line is by nature a 2D trace of an object in a plane. However, shading is one of the primary ways to clearly show the character and contour of the surfaces and any three-dimensional aspects of the design. A lack of appropriate surface-shading in a filed drawing may render the shape and contour of the design non-enabling.
To address this challenge, IP DaVinci has developed a revolutionary new technology to apply photo-realistic stippling (USPTO-approved dot surface-shading). Our stipple-shading technique is so accurate that the shape of all design elements (no matter how small) is definite from the disclosure as filed (as required by 35 U.S.C. 112 (a) & (b)).

Easily distinguished claimed vs. unclaimed regions2020-02-24T21:07:22+00:00

Failure to properly set forth the metes and bounds of the subject matter to be protected by the patent grant is another common reason drawings are rejected. Fortunately, in our stippling drawings, the scope of the design is clearly defined by easily distinguished stippled (claimed) areas of the design, in contrast to dashed-out (disclaimed) areas of the design.

Straight-forward and easy to understand2020-02-24T21:08:09+00:00

Line drawings can be challenging to review and difficult for most people to interpret unless they are trained in the art and knowledgeable of very specific patent-drawing conventions.
In contrast, stippling drawings are straight-forward, easy to understand (and to review), and equally appealing to both experts and untrained observers. This makes stippling drawings easy to check for errors, ambiguities, and inconsistencies.

Your clients will love it2020-02-24T21:08:48+00:00

Our stippling drawings are undeniably one-of-a-kind in both appearance and accuracy. Our stippling drawings make for an impressive, artistic patent document that you can be proud of. Our amazing stippling drawings can help your customers feel more confident in your finished product. Exceptional client-facing documents can make your customers feel they are getting more value from your business than from anywhere else and ensure customer loyalty, repeat business, and word-of-mouth referrals.

Low rejection rate under section 112 (for being non-enabling and indefinite)2020-02-24T21:09:26+00:00

Stippling drawings embrace an approach of “zero defects,” which means that defects are not acceptable and everything should be right the first time. Doing things right the first time is a great way to work and one of the best ways to avoid potential pitfalls and ensure a trouble-free, uncomplicated, and stress-free experience for you and your clients. With a philosophy of zero defects, you can reduce the risk (and consequences) of filing a defective patent application the first time and increase profits both by eliminating the cost of failure and increasing revenues through greater customer satisfaction.

Professionally supported2020-02-24T21:10:07+00:00

Indefiniteness and non-enablement can be caused by inexperience and lack of subject-matter expertise within the team to make the right call, for example, failing to use sufficient corroborating views or claiming unnecessary elements with solid lines. We go the extra mile to make sure that hard-to-reach areas of the claimed design are properly disclosed with a sufficient number of corroborating views and proper shading to avoid a rejection by the USPTO examiner. We do an excellent job in disclaiming unnecessary elements with broken lines (this “broadens” the claim of the design patent and avoids unnecessary non-infringement positions) and deleting and/or simplifying superfluous details to free the drawing from unnecessary elements (for example, hardware and other small parts can be removed from the drawing and the claimed junction is simplified once the hardware is removed.
