What Makes STIPPLES® Different

A shading system engineered for design patent clarity.

Clarity

Sharper, Crisper Geometry

Shading is smooth, consistent, and geometrically accurate — no hand-drawn artifacts or confusing textures.

  • Consistent tone across multiple views
  • Accurate curvature, edges, and surfaces
  • Ideal for examiners reviewing complex forms

Claim Scope

Clear Claimed vs. Unclaimed Areas

STIPPLES® shading makes claim boundaries visually obvious, reducing ambiguity and objection risk.

  • Claimed surfaces shaded consistently
  • Unclaimed areas clearly distinguished
  • Better examiner interpretation

Materials

Material Representation Done Right

Tone variation highlights material transitions more effectively than traditional line shading.

  • Transparent, matte, glossy materials can be indicated
  • Improves realism without breaking PTO rules
  • Great for consumer products and mechanical assemblies

STIPPLES® vs. typical manual shading

Shading Accuracy

Before

Typical Manual Shading

Uneven, inconsistent tone obscures geometry.

After

STIPPLES®

Smooth, accurate tonal shading makes shape obvious.

Claim Boundary Clarity

Before

Ambiguous Claim Boundary

Hard to see what's claimed vs. unclaimed.

After

Clear Claim Boundary

STIPPLES® clarifies surface transitions and boundaries.

Material Representation

Before

Line-Shaded Material

Materials look similar and flatten the design.

After

STIPPLES® Material Rendering

Tone communicates surface and material changes cleanly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is IP DaVinci Stipples™?
IP DaVinci Stipples™ is our premium stipple-shaded design-patent drawing service. We use a consistent, high-resolution stippling method that creates clean depth, clarity, and contrast aligned with USPTO drawing standards.
Why are stipple drawings better?
Stippling provides depth and form without using shading lines that the USPTO can interpret as surface texture. It’s the preferred method for design patents because it communicates shape clearly while avoiding ambiguity.
What do you need from me to get started?
You can send photos, sketches, CAD images, or even rough smartphone pictures. As long as we can see all sides of the design, we can produce fully compliant seven-view drawings.
How long does the process take?
Standard turnaround is typically 5–7 days. Rush and same-day options are available if you need faster delivery.
Do you create the 3D model too?
Yes. For objects that require accurate perspective, we create a clean 3D model internally to ensure consistent angles across all seven views.
Can you simplify decorative elements?
Absolutely. If certain features are ornamental but not essential to the claimed design, we can simplify or clean them while keeping the required visual clarity. This often strengthens the application.
What if the USPTO requests changes?
We’ll revise the drawings free of charge if the USPTO issues an objection or requests amendment due to our illustration work.
Are the drawings fully USPTO-compliant?
Yes. All drawings follow USPTO design-patent standards for line weight, stippling density, view consistency, broken lines, and figure labeling.
Can you add broken lines to show unclaimed parts?
Yes. We regularly prepare drawings with broken-line boundaries to exclude certain features or define only the portion of the design being claimed.
Do you handle complex consumer products?
Yes. We prepare drawings for simple to highly complex products — consumer goods, wearables, packaging, tools, hardware, accessories, and more.
What formats will I receive?
You will receive high-resolution USPTO-ready PDFs and the native vector source files. If your attorney needs a specific file format, we can provide that as well.
Can I file the application on my own?
Yes — many inventors file themselves. If you are filing pro se, our drawings make it significantly easier to prepare a compliant application. We can also refer you to a patent professional if needed.
Do you offer bulk or firm pricing?
Yes. We provide discounted rates for law firms, startups, and R&D teams that need recurring drawing support. Contact us for a custom plan.
How do I get started?
Simply send us photos or sketches of your design. We’ll confirm scope, provide a quote, and begin as soon as you’re ready.
