FOR RESEARCHERS & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER OFFICES

Clearer invention figures — faster disclosures, faster handoff

A low-learning-curve, Visio-based invention drawing system that improves disclosure quality, speeds review, and reduces redraw cycles. Designed for non-drafters.

💡 No CAD or drafting background required. Most users become productive in 3–5 hours.

University disclosure workflow using standardized invention figures created in Visio

Designed for research + TTO reality

Invention disclosures break down when figures are unclear. Researchers often submit screenshots, PowerPoint slides, or rough sketches — and TTO teams spend time interpreting, requesting clarification, and coordinating redraws with counsel or vendors.

IP DaVinci gives campuses a simple, standardized way to create clean, editable invention figures in Microsoft Visio — so disclosures are easier to evaluate, counsel needs fewer follow-ups, and revisions happen in minutes instead of weeks.

Designed for non-drafters — no CAD, artistic skill, or drafting background required

Fast to learn: a focused subset of Visio plus a repeatable workflow (productive in 3–5 hours)

Improves disclosure clarity and reduces clarification cycles between inventors, TTO, and counsel

Keeps figures editable so they can evolve with the invention, embodiments, experiments, and claims

Standardizes visual quality across departments, labs, and rotating students

Works across mixed devices and lab environments (Windows with optional browser-based access)

Where campuses use the system

One standardized system across research, disclosure, and commercialization.

Invention Disclosures

Create clear, structured figures that make disclosures easier to understand and evaluate — reducing ambiguity, follow-up questions, and time-to-decision.

Disclosure Review & Go/No-Go Decisions

Help TTO teams review faster by receiving consistent, readable invention visuals — even when disclosures come from different departments, labs, and inventors.

Counsel & Vendor Handoff

Provide counsel with usable, editable figures early so drafting starts from clean inputs instead of reconstructed sketches — minimizing redraw cycles and vendor dependence.

Revision & Continuity

Maintain drawings in a single editable file so updates happen quickly as experiments evolve, embodiments expand, or claims change — without rebuilding figures for each revision.

The IP DaVinci System

IP DaVinci is a standardized invention-drawing system built on Microsoft Visio — designed for researchers, TTO staff, and campus IP operations (not professional drafters). Start with the Starter Package, which includes Training plus the Toolkit (templates + stencils) so users learn a focused workflow while standards and formatting are enforced inside the drawing environment. Ongoing IP DaVinci Maintenance & Support (optional) keeps the Toolkit current and provides help as teams operate. Optional Cloud Workspace and Studio extend the same system when access or capacity is constrained.

Starter Package (Training + Toolkit)

One-time onboarding that gets researchers and TTO staff productive fast with a repeatable invention-figure workflow.

IP DaVinci Maintenance & Support (Optional)

Annual updates and guidance that keep the Toolkit current and teams moving — especially helpful with rotating students and evolving projects.

Cloud Workspace (Optional)

Browser-based Visio access for Mac/Linux users, remote teams, and locked-down lab environments.

Studio (Optional)

Expert assistance for complex or time-sensitive cases — fully compatible with the same file workflow.

Access options that work in labs and campuses

  • Start with the Starter Package (one-time) for Training + Toolkit
  • Optional annual IP DaVinci Maintenance & Support for updates and ongoing help
  • Use existing Microsoft Visio licenses where available
  • Cloud Workspace available when Windows/Visio installs aren’t practical
  • No local installation required when using Cloud Workspace
  • Compatible with shared lab machines and rotating students
  • Academic pricing, pilots, and campus rollouts available

How campuses typically adopt IP DaVinci

1

Pilot with one lab + TTO workflow

Start with one PI group, graduate cohort, or disclosure-heavy area and align expectations with the TTO review process.

2

Standardize disclosure visuals

Define shared figure conventions that reduce back-and-forth and produce counsel-ready inputs earlier.

3

Scale across departments

Expand to additional labs or programs; add Cloud Workspace only where device environments require it.

Used by research teams and TTO offices

“We can finally communicate embodiments clearly without turning every disclosure into a drafting project.”

— Principal Investigator, Research Lab

“Clearer figures reduced back-and-forth with inventors and sped up our disclosure reviews.”

— Technology Transfer Officer

“Being able to revise in the same file changed everything — no more redraw cycles when experiments evolve.”

— Graduate Researcher
